Government/Region
The government was very important to the people of Mesopotamia. Because of the vast amount of rivers and land space, the area adopted city-states. These areas had their own governments and shared the same cultural identities. The kings and queens of Mesopotamian culture were believed to have been descendants of gods and goddesses.
The region of Mesopotamia is very large. The Mesopotamian region encompasses the area from the Euphrates river to the Tigris river. The land is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea (North) and the Persian Gulf (South). Because of the flooding that occurs during the seasons, the agriculture system of life was difficult on the banks of the two massive rivers. Because of the floods, the people had to formulate an idea to stop the destruction of crops from the flooding. The people created an irrigation system that would ensure that the crops are not harmed but prospered because of the rich soil. With the invention of irrigation the area prospered and was later nicknamed the Fertile Crescent because of the fertile half-moon shaped land.
